Marvin:
[0:04] Hey folks, it's Marvin Cash, the host of the Articulate Fly.
We're back with another Central PA Fishing Report with George Costa from TCO Fly Shop and State College. How you doing, George?

George:
[0:14] I'm amazing as always, Marvin. How are you?

Marvin:
[0:16] As always, just trying to stay out of trouble and thankful that I'm no longer on the show circuit this season.

George:
[0:22] Ah, yes, the show circuit. A blast every year. Fun times every year, right?

Marvin:
[0:28] Yeah, but it was good to finally, after all these years, to actually meet you in person.

George:
[0:33] I know, indeed. It was the first time we actually spoke face-to-face, which was nice after, you know, like many, many phone conversations.
Putting a name to a face and a face to a voice is a nice thing to do.

Marvin:
[0:45] Yeah, and I actually, it's funny, in Michigan, I met one of your shop protégés.

George:
[0:51] Who's that?

Marvin:
[0:52] Austin from Virginia Trophy Guides.

George:
[0:55] Oh, Mr. Conrad.

Marvin:
[0:57] Indeed.

George:
[0:57] I, uh, I, he is, he's a good friend and a hell of a guide and, um, one of my favorite people in the universe.

Marvin:
[1:03] Yeah. So we, uh, spent some time with them and, uh, I guess I was able to hang out with him and Brendan Roosh and, um, and, uh, Braden Skippy Britches Miller.

George:
[1:13] Nice. The whole gang.

Marvin:
[1:15] Yeah.

George:
[1:15] Absolutely.

Marvin:
[1:16] And so, you know, it's kind of funny being a Southerner. I looked at your weather, thought it looked kind of crappy. And you're like, oh, dude, this is totally doable. I've got guide trips. No worries.

George:
[1:25] Yeah, it's not too bad at all. Our weather in the next couple of days is looking pretty good.
We've just had a nice dry week, which really helped to get the water levels back down to almost perfect right now.
Everything is fishing. Everything is fishable. Pens and the J are still a little bit on the high side. You can definitely fish them.
They're just a touch pushy, but the color is amazing. We've got that nice winter green color going on in all our streams.

[1:55] Levels are great on Spring Creek. Guys have been fishing the past couple days with the bright sun. It's been a little slow on the water.
Days that it's getting a little cloudier, like today, it's got a little overcast going to it, have been a little more productive.
productive so um fish are definitely holding in slower runs um and you know eating slowly with soft takes so getting your nymphs down low and really dredging the bottom with a little bit of color has been pretty productive for the guys out there grinding in the cold water um and the weather doesn't look too bad you were all saying it's going to get cold on us but we're actually supposed to get some highs in the 50s going into the weekend and a little bit of rain in the forecast cast won't be terrible doesn't look like too much um on the dry fly front olives have been kind of spotted sporadically here and there um nothing really fishable yet there's probably a handful and you might see the occasional fish that gets excited by them but most of these fish are still kind of glued to the bottom i think we got another week or two weeks um till we get a really good olive hatch that you know gets the fish up on top i've heard of a couple of small black stone stoneflies being spotted as well, but again, nothing that's going to produce a productive topwater hatch quite yet, but we're on the cusp of some really good late winter, early spring fishing.

Marvin:
[3:08] Yeah, and I would imagine your streamer bite's probably not too credit either.

George:
[3:12] Um, it's been pretty good. I was out there earlier in the week and we were picking up some fish on streamers.
And I think, you know, those get out of the bright sun with the streamers.
And we were definitely picking up some nice fish, um, on Monday with some streamers and a little, little more work to put in, but you'll get the nicer fish that want to actually get the, that big streamer bite going.

Marvin:
[3:30] There you go. And, you know, folks, we love questions on the Articulate Fly.
You can email them to us or DM us on social media, whatever is easiest for you.
And if we use your question, I will send you some Articulate Fly swag, and we're going to be drawing for some cool stuff from the shop at the end of the year.
And, you know, George, before I let you go, I know it's basically fly tying season, education season, and booking warm destination travel season.
What have you got going on in the shop?

George:
[3:53] In the shop right now, we've got some good sales going on with the last of the H3s are on sale.
for, you know, close to 40% off right now, which is a fantastic deal on an amazing rod.
The new herbuses are out on the shelves. Come down to the shop and check them out. We do have a handful of classes.
You can check out our website, tcoflyfishing.com, to see all the classes in all our different shops for the rest of the winter.
Once we start getting into our busy season, you know, definitely book some guide trips now if anybody wants to come out here and fish Central PA.
Give us a call. Get on the book now with one of our guides because we are filling up fast for the guide season this coming year.

Marvin:
[4:29] Yeah, well, there you go. Well, listen, folks, you know, got a lot of flexibility, right? Getting sort of towards the tail end of show season. If there's a show near you, go check it out.
If the weather's kind of miserable and you don't want to get outside, tie some flies. Otherwise, go fishing.
Tight lines, everybody. Tight lines, George.

George:
[4:44] Take it easy, Mark.
